Whenever the trailer for this exotic male dancer movie first came out, girls squealed in excitement while boys just rolled their eyes.  Clearly, this film had a very narrow targeted audience, and surprisingly, that audience didn’t even consist of high school or college-aged girls.  I was actually the youngest person in the audience; most of the women sitting in the theater were middle-aged mothers and based off their giggles, I think it’s safe to say they had a fun afternoon with Magic Mike.

Channing Tatum’s past inspired this stripper movie and basically that’s all the movie is, one big strip show.  But is that a bad thing?  Well, it depends.  I’m not complaining about all the eye candy that was dancing around in revealing costumes, if in costumes at all.  That part of the movie was enjoyable.  But the plot, dialogue, and acting were sub-par.

Alex Pettyfer (Adam) is the youngster that Channing Tatum (Mike) takes under his wing to teach the art of stripping to.  In the film, Adam’s older sister, Brooke, worries about her little brother’s new career choice.  Cody Horn, who plays Brooke, was a terrible actress throughout the entire movie.  All of her scenes seemed very forced and her annoying laughter was completely fake.  I was, however, surprised that Tatum did a much better acting job than Pettyfer since several of Pettyfer’s scenes seemed forced as well.  Matthew McConaughey did a good job acting-wise; he definitely stole the show.   But to be fair, I have to give all the men an A+ for their fabulous routines.

Along with the actors that didn’t seem to have any chemistry or acting abilities, the lines were cheesy as well.  I did laugh at a few of the one-liners, but overall I think I might have been able to write a better script.  And while the film attempted to include a plot, it fell short and ultimately was left unresolved.  The writers should have just let the movie be one long strip show and it would have been better, and I’m not saying that just because the men were hot.  The plot really was that bad, in my opinion.

So is Magic Mike worth seeing?  If you’re hoping to see an actual movie with a real plot that just so happens to include male strippers, then you’ll be disappointed.  But if you’re simply in it for the show, then you’ll have fun.

P.S. Guys, don’t bother wasting your time or money to see this film even if it’s to show your lady friend you will do things she likes every now and then!  It’s better if you just let her see and enjoy it on her own because trust me, you’ll hate it.
