Man of Steel

Man-Of-Steel-new-poster3

Man of Steel is better than The Avengers, and so far my favorite film of the year, hands down. It has a huge amount of heart and more morality/philosophical dilemas in the first ten minutes, than all of Into Darkness. And, I can not believe the amount of negativity it is receiving. Stop the hating; Man of Steel is the Superman movie we have been waiting for.  Continue reading

Nothing short of a big letdown.  Iron Man 3 is a 80’s action flick with a superhero coating. Continue reading

The Dark Knight Rises – Spoiler Review

By: Staff Writer Nathaniel Brayton

Welcome back! We apologize for the brief hiatus but we are back and ready to talk Batman.

Now that I have given time for The Dark Knight Rises to settle in and most of you have seen the film, it’s time to discuss spoilers. In this review we will be answering questions about the film that we have received and some thoughts that came to me during the film. If you have any questions that you would like to be answered about any film, feel free to leave a comment here or on our Facebook page.

If any of our readers listened to the our latest episode of The Perfect T.E.N. Podcast, you will recall that I boldly said that The Dark Knight Rises will be the best movie of all time. And now, it pains me to say that it does not quiet live up to my extremely high expectations, but is still a great movie.

Our first question asks “if The Dark Knight Rises is better than The Dark Knight”. Like a politician, I will do my best to side step this question. From a critical viewpoint, The Dark Knight is clearly the better movie. It was the Batman that everyone wanted to see. Every single scene was executed to perfection and Heath Ledger gave us the best Joker and maybe the best embodiment of any character to date. However, I will say that Rises doesn’t feel as tedious as The Dark Knight. The 2 hour and 45 minute epic feels short. And while Bane was no Joker, Hardy also delivers an exceptional performance. Bane was strong, ruthless, and a truly chilling villain. He also brought something different to series. There was a calm about him along with his calculated nature, which brought a new and interesting dynamic to the villains of Nolan’s Batman.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012) Review

Rated: PG-13

2 hrs 45 min

By: Staff Writer Nathaniel Brayton

Batman has always been a tortured soul and The Dark Knight Rises is a character piece which illustrates that side of him. But before we get into the film, lets talk about some other things related to The Dark Knight Rises.

First, there is this great movement going on to help the Colorado shooting victims. Many theaters are asking for donations to help out the families. The theater I was in, inserted a slide asking for a moment of silence. It was a classy act and I’m glad everyone is taking the time to acknowledge such a tragic event.

Secondly, the teaser trailer for Man of Steel was shown. The best scene is when young Clark Kent (I’m assuming), ties a red towel around his neck and puts his hands down bent at his waist, striking the iconic pose. After the trailer was over, a man in my theater yelled out “Superman is better than Batman!” and almost got booed out. But it was a great nerd bonding moment for the entire theater.

Now, Batman. In The Dark Knight Rises, Batman has taken a leave of absence with the crime rates dropping to almost non-existent. However, Bane comes to be the reckoning of Gotham.

The Dark Knight (2008) – Review

Rated: PG-13

By: Staff Writer Nathaniel Brayton

If you read my review of Batman Begins I think you might have caught on to my bias towards Batman films. Tonight I see The Dark Knight Rises, but this afternoon I watched The Dark Knight. And what goes better with Batman, than Batman cookies my girlfriend and I made!

Batman Begins (2005) – My Attempt to Distract Myself from the Fact that I’m Not at the Midnight Premiere

Rated: PG-13

2 hrs 20 mins

By: Staff Writer Nathaniel Brayton

Tonight, as everyone puts on their cowls, capes, and Batman tee-shirts, I sit here dying of anticipation. Slowly, I become more of a hipster, saying to myself , “I’m lame for not being the first one to see it”. I run over to the movie store, kicking myself in the back for not already having the first two. I tell myself that it’s because I wanted to wait for the trilogy, but the truth is that I don’t deserve to call call myself a fan of the Caped Crusader. I fumble over the DVD trying to get in into the player. Finally, some Batman to tide me over. I am immediately taking back to the day I first saw Begins. It was the start of a new chapter for me. The cartoons were great but now I have grown up. I am ready. “I am Batman”, says Christian Bales. It sends shivers down my spine.

The Avengers (2012)

By: Staff Writer Nathaniel Brayton

Rated: PG-13

2 hrs 22 min

I admit it’s been a while since I have seen this film but I have yet to give a proper review. Hopefully, this review can trigger the awesome feelings you had when watching The Avengers.

This is what the Marvel movies have been leading up to, that is, every Marvel movie excluding the Spider-Man trilogy. The amount of hype behind this movie was tremendous; while waiting in line for The Avengers, the usher at the theater tells us that “this is the best movie I have seen in 5 years”. That being said, it’s extremely hard to go into this film without any expectations.

So the question then is, was The Avengers good? If I can, I would call it Marvel-ous.

The Amazing Spider-Man Second Look

By: Staff Writer Nathaniel Brayton

Rated: PG-13

2 hrs 16 mins

Is it possible to forgive a man who has now seen the light? That’s what I ask of you now.  I, your humble reviewer, got a chance to see The Amazing-Spider Man for a second time. Only, this time it was in IMAX 3D and the last time I had been to the IMAX was in 4th grade on a class field trip. I know what you are thinking, “You mean to tell us you didn’t see The Dark Knight or Avatar at the IMAX?!” Well, no. But, I hear you and those are on my list of shame, along with never seeing the Indiana Jones films. Jeez, I heard you gasp through the computer. Now, after basically destroying my reviewing credibility, I will try to redeem myself.
